I've had friends get there D7 from the consulate in Newark over the summer. It's all based on your zoning. Also maybe consider some of the other visa options. Right now they are extending tourist visas pretty easily so you can get around the 90 days (i believe giving people every 3-6 months on top of the 90). Good Luck!On How to get the Portugal Schengen Residence VisaHey Leon,To answer your questions-->are there mixed race social associations and meet-up groups ?Not that I know of but whenever I go to normal expat/digital nomad event and see an african-american I am asked this exact question. So I know this is on the minds of a bunch of people. Why not start one yourself.how does a fellow entrepreneur connect with you on a professional level?Easily, the "professional" me is on LinkedIN but I am going to be putting up a discord server over next few weeks so that clients, colleagues can get a hold of me in real time. I will blog about it soon. Looking forward to connecting. On Is Portugal Racist? So currently there is no travel to EU from abroad. Will it open up by May? It depends on Italy I think. If the new infections don't settle down by last week of March then the virus is running through the population at a faster rate. I think due to the fact Italy is an older population. Portugal is the same. Average age in Italy is 47 and in Portugal it's 43. So will you may not be able to travel. Also the US doesn't have it's act together. So by May you may be in a full on quarantine (if the States get smart). Sorry 🙁On How the Coronavirus is affecting Portugal (from an expat’s point of view).Glad we were able to help.On The A2 CIPLE Exam for Portuguese ResidencyHey Agnit,The income can be from a foreign source of any type. If you are talking on getting an NHR then you are tax-free on dividend income from your business or investments, along with retirement income and/or rental income. The NHR is good for 10-years.On How to get the Portugal Schengen Residence VisaYes that should qualify you. To qualify for a D7 as of 2019:Stable IncomeThe applicants must have the following means of livelihood for 12 months (according to articles 2, n. 2 and 5, n.6 subparagraph (b) of Decree 1563/2007, of December 11):– First adult: 7,200 Euros;– Second or more adults: 3,600 Euros;– Children under age of 18 and dependent older children: 2,160 Euros. On What to Expect at Your First Portuguese D7 Residency Visa AppointmentTell a Texan that Texas is not a country and you might get shot.On Is Portugal Racist?Pedro I had to have your links removed because a few were of poor sources and all were talking about the past. I have lived here for many years, have traveled and lived for years in multiple countries and am American. I am also brown skinned. Yes there is racism in Portugal but nowhere near that of USA, UK, and even many Latin american countries. When you keep saying multi-generations you again are talking about the past. One of the articles you linked was talking about Salazar days, others about colonialism. Again you are talking about old Portugal. In the US even till today you have obvious racism between police and the people. The KKK marches constantly to bring American back to some old glory years of segregation. You have open segregation in schools, social economics and business. This is a thing of today vs Portugal which is predominately white European with some (or a lot if you ask people ) people from Brazil and the other colonies. It is a country that is poor but rising. It has some education issues which it's addressing and there is a growing African population from Mozambique and Angola. Are there racial issues, sure but no where near other countries. And commenting that Portugal is anti-Spanish means you don't know Portuguese people. Spanish people (I am Afro Latin of decent) are thought of as cousins and mocked but it's only in jest.Move the circle of people you are around if you feel racism. I do think it's more social economics. So if you are around the very poor people with very little education you will feel some bias. If you are in the cities (where most people live) you won't. And if you don't believe go to US. Go to Alabama or Mississippi and notice that 1 out of every Black males are incarcerated in Prison. Notice people calling you Mexican which to them is a way of calling you the N-word. And if your brown like me calling you the n-word in your face at least once every few months. Fun right? An equal society? No it's racism. On Is Portugal Racist?Soo... You can try but we wouldn't advise it. Follow the law because if a border agent approaches you and you've violated the law, you're going to get into trouble. Leave EU do paperwork in your home country with expediter if you can afford it and then come back in. It's only 1 month out of EU.On How to get the Portugal Schengen Residence VisaI am honestly half a fan of it. It's yummy but too much of a sugar high for me. If you get to visit the middle of the country they have similar pastries but more savory. So think meat or egg stuffed inside Philo dough. Yum!On Things You Will Love About Living in LisbonHey Tony. Join our Grow community we deal with this exact question. We can connect you with a few insurances which may meet your needs. On How to Get Portuguese Medical InsuranceI like your wording. Crapizza or Crapizzi. And I agree your insides won't enjoy this crap. The thing I have noticed in Portugal and from my travels is that people aren't purchasing the food because it's pizza or coffee or tea. They are purchasing it because it's secret ice cream (everything in starbucks), it's a shitty cake (everything in Telepizza) it's something else disguised as something normal. The Tuga and Espanoles buy this crap because it's a way for young people get fat while making believe they are trendy. "Oh look I am eating an Italian Pizza...." Not young one your just eating a dessert in pizza form.On Why Pizza in Portugal SucksI don't believe you are allowed to work with the Temp Resident Permit or even D7. You would need a Work Visa. If you have a potential employer s/he maybe able to help with that.On What to Expect at Your First Portuguese D7 Residency Visa AppointmentI was asked for 6-months worth. I was also told by a friend they questioned her why her monies weren't in a Portuguese account. She explained it wasn't allowed to "rollover" from her USA retirement to Portugal till she was 59 1/2 years old. The interviewer "accepted" that explanation but suggest "next year" to move monies to Portugal. Different interviewers will focus on different aspects of your assimilation to Portuguese life. One of the big ones is the dollars you bring. On What to Expect at Your First Portuguese D7 Residency Visa AppointmentInsurance broker? Why? You have three choices with medis, depending on amount you think you would need coverage. Just check their site. It’s in English. Insurance brokers are more of an American thing. You really don’t have lots of private insurance here in Europe that will give you that complex an offering. If you have questions in certain coverages just ask. Medis is 15 for general doc visit, 40 for emergency, and 1.50 per lab work, etc. just message them to see ur coverage. On How to get Healthcare in Portugal? You don't pay taxes on SS and if you are age for 401k (I think 59 1/2) you should be okay. So sad Jersey girl.On Answer for I don't think you like hip hop so I have to ask you to complete these rap lyrics….Just make sure if you use a taxi you're doing Google Maps to make sure they don't take you the "long way". Taxi drivers will be very nice but they will at times offer to take you to see the sites. So a 10 Euro taxi ride may end up taking you 30 Euros because he wanted to show you Sintra. On Transportation from the Airport to the cityIssue is when dealing with tax issues, you need to have a team to help. If you risk figuring it out on ur own you maybe liable for stuff you do not know. Get an attorney or tax rep always. Easy is great but it opens you up for risk.On How to get Portuguese Non-Habitual Tax ResidencyAlso if you don't want trouble, I always suggest for people to sit in the front. It's not crazy hostile right now but when they strike or do some marches the taxi drivers start to act like asshats. On Answer for Is Uber in lisbon?...a gazelle shed a tear in Naples with your comment. You definitely have a chance! On Can I get a date with you Blanca?dependsOn What will the weather be beginning of December in Lisbon? You have lots of places that are perfect for having a dog here in Portugal. For us we wanted to be near parks, away from tourist horde and zero hills. So if that is what you're looking for I would suggest on the waterfront near Cais do Sodre, up in Alvalade, Avenida Novas, Alcantara, or a tad bit out of the city center on one of the Metro lines. You should also plan to have a car so you can head to Monsanto, the beaches and any of the national parks (there are a lot).On Guide to Having a Dog in Lisbon, PortugalYes, EDP will send people out to do a survey of your costs. Portugal does have treaties with other countries to stop double taxation. Also there is the NHR regime if you are eligible. You can read about it here:How to get the NHR in PortugalOn How to get the Portugal Schengen Residence VisaHey David,To answer your questions:1. Can I assume that the initial visa application (in the country you are departing) kicks off the residency visa process which the SEF simply confirms and finalises the process once you have an interview? I ask as if appointments take months to organise I am confused about the timing.Yes once you are approved in your home country the next process is pretty much a formality. But you will need to do the proof of a lease/ownership, register for taxes, show proof of income again, and proof of health care. So most of paperwork you did before.2. Can D7 holders do work such as run a bed and breakfastIt's not a work permit. That is another application process. But yes it appears if you own a place or get a commercial lease you can run a business. You will have to do paperwork if you get employees and register the business with the City.3. How long must you spend in Portugal each year to keep the visa alive. (Our plan is to spend six months and alternate with our home in Philippines). We got warned at our meeting that they need a receipt for every month for the first year in portugal for the visa to stay valid. So proof of NIF used on purchases and proof of paying taxes.4. While the SEF are processing the residency visa can you travel throughout the Shengen region?Yep! That's the best part. Free movement. YAH! Only thing is once you leve shengen you only have a certain number of entries out of Portugal. So look on the stamp they place on your passport stating the amount of entries. We are getting ready to launch a private section for people wanting contact with local lawyers, realtors, language coaches, locals, and a few other tidbits. I will make sure to include you in the invite list.On How to get the Portugal Schengen Residence VisaThere is a special place in hell for fans of Pizzalada and it's likes. You've been warned. On Why Pizza in Portugal SucksGreat question. Putting together my thoughts on it but I think this has to be a much bigger piece. On How is life different in Portugal then it is in the United States? When you go into ur interview they will ask you for a fee to do the background check. About $95. This is part of the process of the 30 day wait.On How to get the Portugal Schengen Residence VisaAlmost. It's night and day. Cheaper. Faster (if you make an appointment). Actually know your doctors. It's not even close. It's like going to 7-Eleven vs a Michelin star restaurant. Yes they serve food but really not even close. On How to get Healthcare in Portugal? You can speak spanish in portugal but it's not the Language. It's like speaking German to English speakers. They will understand you in part but it's better to get the language. Also there are lots of items that in Spanish mean one thing and in Portuguese mean a totally different thing. They will nod there head but 99% of time just think you're a foreigner so be nice to you.On Do I Need to Speak Portuguese When I Come to Lisbon?...last thing. Let's say your in hospice or just out of surgery. Doctors here will be waiting for you. It won't be he/she popping in when they want. They literally will be waiting. Your on there day agenda and they will cancel other appointments for you (and will call the people telling them why they had to cancel). And this isn't small town vs big town. I am talking Lisbon. On How to get Healthcare in Portugal?also one other thing. People have family doctors here which will know you, your father, mother, grandfam, so the relationship is very close. Doctors only have a set amount of patients so it's not like going to a doctor and he sees you once in a while. They literally are in your lives legally. My doc can call my house or ring my bell if Ia m not following a medication or what ever prescribed (your nurse can too). And they do. It's nowhere near USA.On How to get Healthcare in Portugal? It's not the god like complex I don't think. It's fact that he/she is expert here and they aren't trying to rob you. They may get it wrong at times but let them do there jobs. It's a different mentality then the US. And the nurses here are WONDERFUL, smart but focus on their expertise. I have seen doctors here refer to nurses loads of time to ask advice or how best to administer things. Very different then States. On How to get Healthcare in Portugal? They require trailing 6-months accounts. So print out your last 6 -month statement showing you meet the mean of subsistence for Portugal I believe is 40 euros a day but the rates change. I will try and look up and update the article. On How to get the Portugal Schengen Residence VisaThe price ranges but I've seen 500 - 1200 Euros usually. The higher priced ones actually are quite better. Google around in your country for "advogados em lisboa para imigração". The better ones will do a skype call with you. If they won't they probably too old to understand how to support your needs. Good luck!On How to get the Portugal Schengen Residence VisaWhich country are you coming from?On How to get the Portugal Schengen Residence VisaI was up in Coimbra driving over the weekend. Noticed no one was on the highway. I asked the inn keeper we were staying with, where is everyone on highway? Her answer: They took the long way because it's more scenic. I blinked for a few and said "But it's 3-hours longer?" Her retort "17 Euro cheaper and you get to see high mountains of Portugal. It's a great deal". 🙂On How to have Patience in PortugalYeah you shouldn't have issues. It's very common to see mixed race couple here. Remember that Portugal had an empire that spans from Angola, Brazil, India, Cape Verde and Macau. Most people will thing you guys are from one of those countries. I get Cape Verde a lot or Brazilian. On Is Portugal Racist?I see lots of same sex couples around town. There is a gay community around Principe Real. Same sex married couples are recognized by the country since 2010 so shouldn't be issue for her. One thing though some Portugese are pretty conservative. So they may get a few stare especially if they kiss in public outside the major cities. But honestly they shouldn't have a problem 99% of the time.As for the language I am a spanish speaker so it is easier to learn portuguese then if your a non-latin speaker. One thing that has been giving me problems language wise is Portuguese from Portgual sounds kind of Russian to me. So it take a while for your "ear" to hear is properly. Brazilian Portuguese is way easier. On Is Portugal Racist? Thanks Dan. I will update the article. I honestly didn’t know difference. On How to get the Portugal Schengen Residence VisaYour passport must be valid 3-months beyond the stay of a short term visa but for the long term it must be valid for the whole time. You can renew your passport online and/or get a second one if you need. They make exceptions for second passports when dealing with foreign visa requirements. So might be a good time to get a duplicate just in case.On How to get the Portugal Schengen Residence VisaUnless you are married you are considered two separate people. So have them print out your bank funds and you do the same. In our letter to Portugal I mentioned we both own businesses together and also joint accounts. But yes you will have to have 2 separate appointments. They usually are within 30 minutes of one another. Also if one of you speaks more Portuguese they can come with you to the appointment. It's very little stress really...just the phone and bureaucratic wait is a bit rough. On How to get the Portugal Schengen Residence VisaIt was 30-days after you apply for the first 4-months visa. They will email you with the needed for your final meeting. On How to get the Portugal Schengen Residence VisaYou can also say in the UK to do the visa run for another 90 days. Though Portugal is very good about extending people an extra 90 days on top of the first 90 days. Especially if you are traveling the country. Just go to the SEF, make an appointment and ask for a tourist visa extension. On 50 Must Have Tips for Moving to LisbonMy Grandma was not racist. She actually just didn't like most people.
