Updated for 2023 – NOTE – this is a living list that will be updated as I find more dog-friendly restaurants in Lisbon. I will only place them here if the food is good and if you are allowed to bring dogs inside the restaurant, not places where they are ok on outside areas. If you know more restaurants and cafes in Lisbon that allow you to bring your dog, let me know so I can check them out.
As many of you know, I adopted a Portuguese Podengo a little over a year ago. As I noted in my guide to having a dog in Portugal, a law was recently passed that allows restaurants in Lisbon if the owner decides to make the restaurant dog-friendly. There are a few caveats, but they are pretty reasonable. When you go to a dog-friendly restaurant in Lisbon, your pup must be on a short leash and can only stay in the service zone (aka – no kitchen access). I’ve been slowly learning about the few restaurants that allow you to bring your pup, so I decided to put this guide together. It is a small list, and I’d love to grow it, so make sure to leave a comment if you know of more. Without further ado, here’s the list of dog-friendly restaurants in Lisbon by neighborhood (these are not the ones with an outside area, but where you can bring them inside.

Santino did not get to go with us, but his friend Fritz did. The Dim Sum at Aura is incredible. I recommend booking a table with at least 6 people so you can order tons of dishes to share.
I loved the lamb sticky rice pearls, the wild mushroom bar, and the lamb & pan choi.
The service was great too.
Aura Dim Sum is on the corner of a hill, so wear sensible shoes.
A Travessa Do Fado – Petiscos
Located At: Largo do Chafariz de Dentro 1.
Average Price For Two: €45
Offers Live Music
I haven’t been there to personally verify yet, but I was told that they were dog-friendly. I wrote the restaurant via email, and they responded that they are a dog-friendly restaurant in the Alfama. I plan to go within the next few weeks to tell you how it goes. If you have already been there, leave a comment to let us know how it went with you and your furry friend on your visit.
Travessa do Fado offers a menu of Portuguese petiscos (think of them as small bites) in a calm atmosphere right by the Fado Museum.

If you have been there, let me know what is was like in the Comments.
ARROIOS DOG-FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS
Raffi’s Bagels – American-Breakfast-Brunch

Average Price Per Plate €6-$20
Specialty: Bagels

Hours Mon-Sat 9am- 6pm, Sun 9am – 5pm
You have plenty of seating options with your pup, you can sit out front on the street, in their patio in the back of the place, or in the restaurant. The staff is lovely. The bagels aren’t really NY Bagels (you can’t make real bagels without NY water, but they will do if you’re really jonesing for one.
Quick tip. If you go and order say scrambled eggs on a bagel, tell them to bring you the eggs separately. The eggs will make the “bagel” too soggy.
Pastaria – Italian
Located at Largo Santa Bárbara 8f (In the Anjos quarter of Arroios).
Average Price Per Plate €13
Specialty Freshly Made Pasta
Tel 963 722 024
I haven’t visited yet, but I plan to. I confirmed with them via Instagram and they said they allow dogs inside.

I had been looking forward to going here for a long time. Our friends invited us to go this weekend, and the place is definitely dog friendly. The food was wonderful. The service, not so much. The servers were pretty curt and kept forgetting parts of our order, so I do not think I will be going back, but if you have been before and you have had good service, let me know if you think I should give it another try.
SANTO ANTONIO DOG-FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS

Hours: Mon-Tue 8:00am to 2:30,pm, Wed-Sun 8:00am-10:00pm
I finally made it to Manifest. Went on a Wednesday morning and there were already people waiting outside when I got there at I think 9. It is more expensive than other brunch places in Lisbon, but the food quality is excellent. They are absolutely dog friendly, so you can 100% take your puppy inside.
Yard of Greens– Brunch & Lunch
Located at R. de Conde Redondo in the Santo Antonio Neighborhood of Lisbon
Specialty: Brunch, Lunch
Known For: Local, fresh food.
Tel: 351 21 164 2029
How to Get There: Take the metro to Marques de Pombal. It is a 5 minute walk from there.
We were originally going to Manifest on a Saturday, but there was a line…as New Yorkers, we don’t do lines. So we walked around the corner and saw this place, walked in and asked if we could enter with our dog. To my pleasant surprise, they said yes. This spot offers vegetarian and vegan friendly options as well. The staff is lovely and the decor is very nature focused. I am not vegan or vegetarian, but I am trying to cut back on things that harm the environment, so I have been doing vegan “dairy” products. I loved that they had a choice of vegetable milks for me to choose from.
RATO DOG-FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS
The Whisk Cafe – Brunch & Lunch
Located at R. do Sol ao Rato 9D in the Rato Neighborhood of Lisbon
Specialty: Brunch, Lunch
Known For: Incredible incredible breakfast and their resident Frenchie, Ozuna.
Tel: 93 941 7447
How to Get There: Take the metro to Rato and walk 1 block up. The cafe is located up a short, but steep block.
I don’t go to Rato very often, but I have a feeling I will be. I recently went to The Whisk Cafe. I have to tell you, they made us feel incredibly welcome. Santino got his own water bowl, and since we ordered him scrambled eggs, they brought it to him in a dog bowl!!!
I had the tosta mista with a fried egg. It was huge…but most importantly, it was delicious. Great coffee AND they had vegetable milk (since I absolutely hate milk) which meant that I could have a mochaccino (I usually stick to double espressos (um cafe cheio).
Mama Shelter: Brunch & Cocktails

Specialty: Brunch, Cocktails
Known For: Incredible rooftop with views of the Tejo river.
Tel: 21 054 9899
How to Get There: Take the metro to Rato and walk 1 block or take the metro to Marques de Pombal and walk a few blocks. You an also take an Uber or walk. The following buses go there too 706, 709, 774.
Mama Shelter is a hotel near the Rato and Marques de Pombal metro stations that is known to be one of the best brunches in Lisbon. They also have a rooftop that I did not visit.
While Santino did not get to go with me to Mama Shelter (I had a baby shower for a friend there), that gorgeous pup in the picture did go in.
I would call ahead to let them know that you’re coming in with a dog, particularly since they are pretty busy on weekends.
ESTRELA DOG-FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS
Boutik (Light Snacks, Healthy Cafe)
Located at Rua de São Bento 106D in the Papa quarter of Estrela.
Specialty: Shop, Boutique, Gallery
Tel: 21 396 0773
It should really come as no surprise that Boutik Lisboa is a dog-friendly environment. Boutik is not just a simple place to get food. Boutik identifies itself as the first surf shack of Lisbon, where you can shop for the latest gear, eat healthy & delicious things like poke bowls, avocado toasts, and bagels. You can also get some cool gear and jewelry…and you can bring your dog with you as long as he or she is on a leash. I’d say that’s pretty gnarly. There is no metro station nearby, so you can take an Uber, or you can get off at either at Cais do Sodre or Chiado and walk.
La Boulangerie (French, Breakfast, Brunch, Light Lunches)
Located at R. do Olival 42 in the Papa quarter of Estrela.
Specialty brunch
Tel 21 395 1208
The interior is tiny, but I was just there and not only will they allow your dog inside, their croissants are the best I have tasted in Lisbon. If the inside is full, they have outdoor seating right across the street AND below by the fountain that faces the Museum de Arte Antiga. Definitely recommended. Get the mazagran. You will thank me.
There is no metro nearby, so take an Uber.
MISERICORDIA DOG-FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS
Clube Royale (Antiques, Cafe, Live Music)
Located at R. do Poço dos Negros 90 in The Santa Catarina Area of Misericordia in Lisbon
Tel 351 962 804 368
Hours Sun 12-7pm, Mon 12-8:30pm, Tue 12-11pm, Wed 12-8pm, Thur-Fri 12-8:30pm, Sat 12-11:30pm.
This is one of my favorite places in Lisbon. This antiques shop is more than just that. It is run by a lovely Portuguese couple. They are sweet, funny, and incredibly entertaining. They often break out in music, and the wife (I will get her name so she is not just ‘wife’ cooks while you are there. All the goodies you get there are hand made on the spot. Her empales de galinha are awesome. My only pet peeve is that they don’t have hot tea at night. Oh yeah, this place is also a live music venue and it is just divine. Go, your pup will love it.
Fares (Middle Eastern)
Located at Rua de S. Paulo 200 in The Cais do Sodré Area of Misericordia in Lisbon
Tel 351 21 249 3110
Hours Mon-Thur 4pm-1am, Fri – Sun 12-3:30pm & 6:30-1am
It’s not very big, but the food and cocktails are amazing, and the staff is lovely. You must make reservations if you want to sit inside. If you don’t you will end up sitting on the tables on the sidewalks (and I am not a fan of eating next to cards). This place gets a big paws up from Santino.
Cafe Janis (Cafe, Burgers, Light Meals)
Located at Rua da Moeda 1A in The Cais do Sodré Area of Misericordia in Lisbon
Tel 914 414 299
Cafe Janis is open late nights which makes it pretty popular. It’s also fully dog-friendly. When I went to ask they actually told me they prefer dogs to humans 😉
Go there for their all-day breakfast, light treats, vegetarian and vegan options, and burgers when you want something a little heftier.
To get there, take any metro line to the Cais Do Sodre station. It is a 5 minute walk from there.
Jardim dos Sentidos (Vegetarian)
Located at Rua Mãe d’Água, 3 in the Principe Real quarter of Lisbon
Tel 21 342 3670
If you find yourself close to Praça da Alegria with your pup, Jardim dos Sentidos is a great place to go. The restaurant is vegetarian, has a gorgeous yard, and it is one of Lisbon’s few dog-friendly eateries. If you want to go with your dog, you must call ahead of time since they have a section where dogs are allowed. The food is fantastic, the staff is friendly, and their cocktails are divine.
The restaurant is about a 10-minute walk (uphill) from the Avenida Metro Station.
NOTE: Jardim dos sentidos is currently closed, but I messaged the restaurant and they will be reopening. I’ll update this once they do.
Numa Café (coffee, pastries, lunches, light meals)
Located at R. da Escola Politécnica 94 in the Principe Real quarter of Lisbon
Tel no idea, it’s not listed on their Instagram page.
I just discovered this place in September. The place is sparkling clean. I only had the coffee, but they offer baked goods, toasts, bowls, desserts, you get the idea. One of these days I’ll have to try something heartier.
The staff was soooooo nice. As you can see, Santino got plenty of love there.
It is about a 5 minute walk from Praça e Jardim do Príncipe Real. To get there, either call an Uber or take the metro to Rato, then, the cafe is about a 10-15 minute walk depending on how fast-slow you walk 😉
Seagull Method Café (breakfast, brunch, lunch, wine bar, healthy)
Located at R. da Palmeira 23 in the Principe Real quarter of Lisbon
Tel 21 342 1232
When I first started visiting Lisbon, I stayed in Principe Real. It is still one of my favorite neighborhoods in Lisbon, and it is also one of the trendiest in the area. Seagull Method Café is seriously dog-friendly. I went there to have lunch with my friend (one of the best acupuncturists in Lisbon, Hailey Enright) who suggested the place. I walked in with Santino and nobody gave us weird eyes. As soon as I sat down to my table (inside the restaurant), they brought him a bowl with water. People came up, pet him and he was made to feel incredibly welcome. The food was delish. We shared a portion of macaroni and cheese (yummers). Hailey is 99.99% vegan, so she enjoyed a salad, and I had meatballs that came with the most delicious grits. I go there often and I get delivery from them as well. They haven’t let me down yet.
It is about a 5 minute walk (downhill) from Praça e Jardim do Príncipe Real. . To get there, either call an Uber or take the metro to Rato, then, the restaurant is about a 10-15 minute walk depending on how fast-slow you walk 😉
TEASE (Cafe)
Located at Rua da Quintinha 70-B in the Sao Bento quarter of Misericordia
This São Bento coffee shop has been around now for 6 years. Tease is chill and charming. You can get a light meal and some really tasty baked goods, particularly cupcakes. If you’re looking for a little something naughtier, check out their cocktails too.
It is not too far of a walk from Praça das Flores.
ALVALADE DOG-FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS
Padaria Fermenta (Portuguese Coffee-Pastry Shop)
Located at R. António Ferreira 5A in the São Miguel neighborhood of Alvalade.
Tel: 351 938 840 236
This bakery is kinda hidden, but so worth going. They make the best whole wheat croissants (and I am a classic croissant eater). I recently learned that they are delivered from Porto’s Padaria Ribeira. Seriously, go.
They allow only about 2 dogs at a time inside since the place is tiny. The service is great too. This is usually where I have my 2nd coffee of the day.
AVENIDAS NOVAS DOG-FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS
Hygge Kaffe (Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch)
Located at R. Tomás Ribeiro 95 in the São Sebastiao da Pedreira area of Avenidas Novas.
Tel: 351 21 150 6290
Hours: Mon-Sun 8am-7pm
Pro Tip: Don’t go on weekends, you’ll stand on line for hours. Weekdays are much better.
Sooooo…people love this place and it is very (and I mean very Instagram friendly). This means it is filled with expats and compared to most similar places, it is slightly over priced. We didn’t love the coffee (I think they are doing African Arabica and I only like Latin American Arabica), and both Antonio and I weren’t in love with breakfast (I could taste so much vinegar on my poached eggs). That being said, it is 100% dog friendly and I think we are the only two people on earth that didn’t like this place. I will say it was sparkling clean, the staff was lovely, and the desserts looked good.
LAB – Padaria Portuguesa (Portuguese Coffee-Pastry Shop)
Located at Avenida da Republic 39B in the Saldanha quarter of Avenidas Novas
This pastelaria on Avenida da República is pretty big. Tons of people go there with their dogs and laptops to work. It’s a great place for a coffee, a light lunch, and for some sweet delights.
If you follow me on Instagram, you will probably see that Antonio, Santino and I go there at least twice a week. Not only are they dog-friendly (yes, you can bring your dog inside), they make incredible coffee, offer really high quality tea, AND their eclairs are to die for. Oh yeah, they also have an outside area.
You can take the red line to Saldanha and walk a block to get there.
They were in an awful location before, but they moved right across from the new Aldi. I just found out they are dog friendly. The place is tiny, so they “only” allow three dogs at a time inside. There is also a covered outside area out front.
I’m not a fan of their coffee (too acidic, others disagree with me), but their brownies are to die for. I dream of their brownies.
Take the Blue line and get off at Parque. It is a short walk from there.
Tantos Livros, Livreiros (Book Shop)
Located at Av. Marquês de Tomar 1B in Avenidas Novas
Tel 21 356 3791
While not officially a restaurant, this lovely book store serves coffee and pastries and is dog-friendly. I had to add them here because the staff is lovely as well. Go in, pick up a magazine and enjoy a Nespresso with your pup. Don’t expect a lot of variety. They only serve Nespresso (various flavors) and usually just one pastry. They also have a few outdoor tables for sunny days.
Olivia (Cute Breakfast-Lunch-Dinner Place)
Located at Avenida Marques de Tomar 69A in the Saldanha area of Avenidas Novas
Tel 217 961 742
This place opened up this year. I was walking past with my dog, so I figured I’d ask if they were a dog-friendly restaurant. Turns out they are, the staff is lovely, and the food is good. They serve breakfast items like pancakes, tacos, and other lunch/dinnery items. I have a feeling I’ll become a regular.
Perfetto (Coffee Shop)
Located at Avenida 5 de Outubro 52-A in the Saldanha area of Avenidas Novas
Tel 967 803 045
I had walked past this place a ton of times and had it on my list of places to visit since they have pretty good oyster deals. Here’s the skinny on that for now (keep in mind places can always change their prices):
- 2€ per oyster
- 3 oysters & a glass of white wine 8€
- 3 oysters & a glass of bubble 9€
- 6 oysters €10
Turns out they are also dog friendly. I had not noticed the sign on their door (which was staring right at me), so I went inside and asked if I could go in with my dog. They told me yes, brought him water and I have a feeling I’ll be going to this place often.
Picture coming soon.
CAMPO DE OURIQUE DOG-FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS
There are other places to eat in Campo de Ourique than the Mercado de Campo de Ourique. Tropismo is brand new to Campo de Ourique and it is lovely. Their focus is on local, high-quality ingredients used to reinvent French classics in a friendly, fun environment. Tropismo has a stunning back yard with hand-painted murals and grapevines shielding you from the sun. It is a respite for dogs and their humans. Dogs are allowed in their back yard, just make sure to call ahead so you can reserve a table out back and tell them that you would like to come with your pup. Try the socca, it is superb.
BELEM DOG-FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS
MIOLO (Brunch)
Located at R. de Belem 36
Tel 913 504 260
So….the spot is gorgeous and Instagram ready. The food is nice, but a little overkill (you know how they say when you get dressed that you should look in the mirror and take off the first thing you see…it felt to me like they had skipped this step – trying too hard to be crunchy). The service was ok on the day we visited, but just ok. That being said, the place is absolutely dog-friendly, so you can sit inside with your pup AND it has tons of great reviews, so perhaps it was just an off day. Either way, if you need a dog-friendly place to eat in Belem that’s near Jeronymos, this is it.
Good article. I may visit Lisbon in April with my pup.
I think you and your dog will love it here, Monica. I’ll keep adding more dog-friendly restaurants in Lisbon as they come up. The nice thing is that a lot of restaurants here also have outside areas on the street, so even in those restaurants where you can’t take your dog inside, you can usually sit outside.
There are some dog runs, not that many, but make sure to check out Parque Eduard VII and Monsanto Park if you want to give your pup some time in beautiful green spaces.
Have a great time,
Blanca
Hello Blanca,
Thank you very much for your recommendations for dog friendly restaurants and places in Lisbon.
We have been to Tropismo with our Portuguese water dog on Friday. The staff was very friendly, the cook came out to talk to us, it was really a very good experience! And… the food was very good, we enjoyed it a lot!
Today we found a restaurant where it said that dogs are allowed inside, I just wanted to let you know, we have no more time to try it, but maybe next time when we come again to Lisbon. The restaurant is Fabulas.
https://www.fabulas.pt/
Please let me know about your experience with this restaurant! All the best
Hermine and Holly the waterdog
So nice to meet you Hermine. Glad you liked Tropismo, I thought they were incredibly sweet and really dog friendly. I went to Fabulas the first time I came to Portugal…I guess I need to try it out again. That restaurant is pretty well known in the city. I’ll let you know how it goes 🙂
Have a great weekend,
Blanca
Great article thank you! Le Bar a Crepes in Graça also welcomes dogs inside and d’As beatas in Graça allows dogs in the front section of the restaurant (technically a covered porch) and they are very welcoming too. Stephanie and Uisce the waterdog
That’s awesome. I’m going to have to check it out. Santino says hello to Uisce.
Just wonderful to know. I have recently moved to Lisbon with our 2 miniature daschunds, and know noelw it is winter, I really needed this valuable information.
Such gratitude to you.
Welcome to Lisbon, Virginia.
I keep finding more and more dog-friendly restaurants in Lisbon, and as I do (and visit them to make sure they are really dog-friendly places), I update this post. If you find any, let me know.
Your dogs are going to love it here.
Blanca
