COST OF VARIOUS MEDICAL PROCEDURES AND EXAMS IN PORTUGAL

Today I went in for my annual health exams and – as usual – I was shocked when I paid the bill. However, the shock was incredibly pleasant since the cost of healthcare in Portugal is significantly lower than in the US. Just to give you a better view of the situation, there are two types of healthcare in Portugal: public (the SNS) or private. The SNS System is incredibly cheap. I do not use it since I recently moved here and I don’t want to use services that are meant for those who have been paying taxes into the system for years. 

The Portuguese private insurance plan I chose is dirt cheap compared to the US (we pay around 200€ for two adults) AND it includes almost everything I could need.  If you are curious, you can learn more about Portuguese health insurance here.

Today, I am going to break down the costs (with private insurance) of various types of doctors, exams, and procedures. My plan may be different than others, but this will give you an idea as to the costs for doctor’s visits,  exams, and more.
