Hi all, I am looking at a few different B&B and hotels but am unsure what area to stay in. We will be in Lisbon 3 nights and Sintra 2 nights. In Lisbon what do the estela and the alfama areas each have to er and which of these would suit a couple in their 40's who like to walk around and get a feel for the city and the people. Thanks

Hi Steph,

There are tons of neighborhoods in Lisbon all with their own soul. Both the Alfama and Estrela still have locals living there (many areas are very French/British). Alfama is older (in fact, it was the place that remained intact during the earthquake/tsunami/fires) so you will see Lisbon as it was back in the day. Estrela is fancier, more upscale. There is a fantastic park there and it is very close to Campo de Ourique, Rato and Principe Real. Regardless of where you stay, Lisbon has fantastic public transport and there are plenty of ubers, so you can explore the entire city no matter what you choose.
