Hi Blanca,

I love how passionate you are about dogs & their well being, wish there were more people like you in this world.

My name is Henry Goldstein, I live in New York & was thinking about visiting Portugal in June, so we would spend a little time in Lisbon before driving off to places like Porto & so forth. I always travel with my service dog, she is a 2 year old weimaraner named Cookie & she is very used to traveling long distances in every imaginable mode of transportation. My question is, what are some of the best & least problematic taxi service companies that would allow the dog. Is there an app for taxis where you can say you have a dog? For example, Paris has an app, G-7, which allows for dog friendly taxis to pick you up. We plan on renting a car once we leave Lisbon,so we wouldn't need taxis that often.

Are there places in Lisbon where I might be able to let her loose so she could run around a bit? Any tips would be so greatly appreciated. Keep up the wonderful work you are doing.

Best regards,

Henry

Hi Henry,

Thanks for dropping by. I think you and your dog will love Lisboa!

Since you have a larger dog, Uber won't be the best choice for you. They're great with my guy, but he's pretty small.

The website below is for a company that offers 24-hour taxi service in Lisbon and has an option for dogs. There is an extra charge of €1.60 and I think you have to call ahead of time so that you get a dog friendly car https://taxislisboa.com/tarifas/.

I believe they also have an app, but I'm not sure on the options for pet friendly taxis on the app.

As to where to let her run around? Check out Monsanto Park, it's a 10 minute drive from the center of the city, has gorgeous views and plenty of space for her to run.

I've got a list of dog runs here: https://blancavalbuena.com/dog-ownership-in-lisbon-portugal/ but most of us just take our dogs to Eduardo VII in the afternoons. It is quite lovely there.

Also, check out https://www.facebook.com/cooptaxis/ - Dogs are welcome in Cooptaxis vehicles, but they must be in a carrier (I think that's Lisbon law). When you order a taxi through the telephone number of the call center, you need to let them know you have a dog in a carrier coming with you.
