Hi Lisbon Friends, We are a family of 5. We are trying to travel around using public transportation keeping to a budget. I am wondering about taking bikes on the CP train system. I noticed on the CP site they have a weekend family pass for 50% less and it appears that bicycles are free on the Lisbon suburban line. I was wondering is it stupid to bring bikes to further away place such as Parmela or Setubal, ride around and have a look, and hop the train back to Lisbon? I notice there is a ferry ride to start and they appear to take bikes too. Does plan make any sense? Or am I confused? Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Umm.. You theortically can and I have seen people do this but to get to places of interest in Setubal or Parmela it's uphill. Like very up hill. Think Castle/fort. An uber is just as cost effective and safer. Portuguese drivers don't 100% respect the roads when bikers are on them. You will get alot of honking and curses.
