Dear Blanca,
I’m an eager explorer from Fresno, planning to journey through Portugal! But I’m worried about overheating: what are the monthly temperatures in Portugal? I’m dreading sunburns, shivers and everything in between!
Sincerely,
Swaddlin’ Sally from Fresno
Dear Swaddlin’ Sally,
I hope you’re looking forward to your journey through Portugal! You are wise to consider the weather as part of your planning. Portugal’s climate varies widely depending on region, but the average temperatures can give you an idea of what to expect.
In general, Portugal has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and cool winters. In the Algarve and Azores regions the heat can be especially intense during the summer months. In Lisbon and Porto, temperatures range from the mid-teens to the mid-20s C° (mid-60s to low-70s F°) during the summer. The winter can bring temperatures down to the high single digits C° (mid-40s F°).
Some Facts About Portugal’s Average Temperatures:
• January: 9°C – 48°F
• February: 10.6°C – 51°F
• March: 13.4°C – 56°F
• April: 15.1°C – 59°F
• May: 18.6°C – 66°F
• June: 21.1°C – 70°F
• July: 24.3°C – 76°F
• August: 24.2°C – 75°F
