You all know by now that I really enjoy Todd English’s restaurants. The food is consistent, tasty, and fairly priced. This holds true at Bonfire in Terminal 2 at JFK airport. The locale is nothing “special”. It’s an airport hotel, which means a half wall to separate diners from the airport. The restaurant was a little bit dark, and service was fine, but not spectacular. That being said, I knew I would have a good meal once I saw the smiling faces on the chefs preparing food in the open kitchen. They looked like they were having fun and even chatted with us from the kitchen. If you go, make sure to sit near the kitchen, they will liven up your meal. We started off with two glasses of Chardonnay. They were ginormous pours. The glass was about half the size of my face (I took a picture – but frankly I looked crummy, so you won’t get to see it). The menu is Americanish…with touches of Latin Cuisine. I picked the skirt steak tacos. They were delicious. The meat was juicy, flavorful. The tacos were on a salad and topped with pico de gallo. On the side was a dab of an avocado cream. I would have preferred a slice of avocado, or a more honest guacamole, but this was no biggie. The dish was just the thing to make my tummy happy. I think I know where I’m eating next time I’m stuck in the airport for 48 hours.
