Dear Blanca,
I’m wondering if Portugal offers a pleasant living environment after reading a blog post about a Charming Chihuahua taking a trip to Lisbon! I’m debating if I should follow suit with my dog and get a taste of the Portuguese lifestyle. Does Portugal have good living conditions?
Kindly,
Frank
Living Conditions In Portugal
Dear Frank
I am so excited to hear you are considering taking a trip to Portugal with your Chihuahua! As someone who has lived in Lisbon for the past few years, I can personally attest that the country offers a pleasant living environment for anyone interested in experiencing the Portuguese lifestyle. In Lisbon (can’t speak about the rest of the country), it is also great for dogs.
When it comes to overall livability, Portugal ranks quite high on the list for expats. The nation offers a wealth of natural resources including stunning mountain regions and idyllic beaches to explore during the summer. The Portuguese culture itself is also quite welcoming and emphasizes the importance of family and community. That same sense of community and acceptance can also be seen in the lower crime rates, allowing one to really feel safe and part of the community.
On the flip side, Portugal can be quite expensive. Prices for goods and services are higher than many other places in Europe, and access to higher education and career opportunities can also be quite limited. Additionally, the country is subject to stigma and stereotypes which can sometimes be unbearable. Furthermore, the consequences of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Portuguese economy and lifestyle cannot be disregarded.
Pros of Living in Portugal:
• Natural Resources: Portugal offers beautiful scenic landscapes and mountain regions to explore.
• Culture: Portuguese culture is welcoming and emphasizes the importance of family and community.
• Safety: Low crime rates make it easy to feel safe and secure in Portugal.
Cons of Living in Portugal:
• Expensive: Prices for goods and services are higher than in other European countries.
• Limited Opportunities: Access to higher education and career opportunities can be limited.
• Stereotypes: Portugal is subject to stigmas and stereotypes which can sometimes be unbearable.
• Pandemic Impact: The COVID-19 Pandemic has had huge repercussions on the Portuguese economy and lifestyle.
Overall, though, Portugal is an incredible country with surprisingly good living conditions. Whether or not one chooses to live in Portugal, the people, culture, and natural beauty are all extraordinary and worth experiencing! Enjoy your trip, Fido From Fresno!
Warm regards,
Blanca Valbuena.
