Toll Prices to Rise 5%

Brace Yourselves: Toll Prices to Rise 5% in 2023

It looks like we’ll be paying a bit more to use the toll roads  in Portugal in 2023. The government has decided to set a maximum limit for the increase of tolls, and it looks like we’re looking at a 5% hike. Now, I know what you’re thinking – another price increase? So am I. Tolls are freakin’ expensive here. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the details of the toll increase and what it means for drivers in the coming year.

What Is The Current Cost Of Tolls In Portugal?

How much do tolls cost in Portugal?

If you’re planning a road trip or just commuting to work, it’s important to know what you can expect to pay at the toll booth. For a regular car (not a truck or van), it currently costs €22.40 to go from Lisbon to Porto, €21.30 to go from Lisbon to Albufeira, and €23.80 from Porto to Tavira – and that’s just one way, so if you’re going on holiday, you can expect to pay double that, plus the cost of fuel.

Since toll prices are due to rise, you’ll end up paying more next year.

If you are planning a trip or want to calculate how much it will cost you to get from place A to place B in Portugal, you can use the Via Verde toll calculator below.

How Much Are Tolls Increasing in Portugal?

Ok…tolls are going to increase no more than 5%, this is the limit by the government. This is below the 9-10% that transport companies wanted, but higher than the 2% increase limit that was set for housing prices (which is normally set to match inflation). This will have an effect on drivers and business, particularly when combined with fuel prices.

So, what do you think about this news? Will the 5% increase in toll prices in Portugal affect your plans to travel or will you stick with your usual route? Let me know in the comments below. And if you’re looking to save some money, you might consider taking public transport instead of driving. Just a thought!”
