I have decided to rent an Airbnb apartment vs a hotel. It seems like I have a much better chance of finding a great place for 4-people at a reasonable price. Most hotels require me to book 2 rooms. So after doing some more reading on various sites I have found that Bairro Alto and I have heard it's a drunken mess but traditional (Do Portuguese drink alot?).   Where do I go that's safe for my family and I. We have been on missions to Honduras so we know dangerous places.  From my reading and news report about Portugal it seems safe but I have heard there are a lot of Muslims teens in Europe that harass people and my daughter is 16.  We watched that horrible attack in Cologne Germany where the Muslim kids where trying to rape all those girls. I don't want her to get accosted or god-forbid raped in name of Islam if she goes out alone.  I am not saying we are anti-muslim but we have seen the attacks in Paris, Barcelona and the recent shooting in France near the church.   We are just quiet Christians trying to see a new country for our vacation. Advice please!  God bless!

Umm...So you see something on TV for a continent and think it pertains to every country in that continent?

Now you might say, but this is the whole USA vs my small town. Right exactly. Europe is bigger than the US in population and is diverse culturally. Islam is accepted as is Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Shinto, Taoism, etc, It's a mix but mainly Catholic and Protestantism sects of Christianity (with a mix of Christian Orthodox).
In Portugal, there is no issue between religion and being part of Portuguese culture. All my neighbors are mixed but mainly Catholic.
As per your question on your 16-year old daughter being raped, that's crazy to question or suggest. That could happen anywhere I guess but 99.9999% of the time doesn't happen unless you're in a war zone or major crime area (both of which aren't anywhere in Europe).
...and in defense of Islam, it's a relgion with millions of good and great people with few crazies. Christianity has millions of good and great people with a few crazies too. Don't blanket a whole group because of some nutjobs because when you do you aren't looking at your own group.
