My husband and I will be doing a 10-day trip between Porto and Lisbon this summer and we want to know what food is season. We're coming from the mid-west and we know that each country has seasonal stuff. Apples in the Fall, Strawberries in the Spring, etc. What unique or culturally identifiable thing does Portugal have? We are not vegetarians more like foodies so you won't scare us! Thank you Blanca and Antonio your blog is amazing!

So in the summer I am obsessed about cherries and sardines. This is the only correct answer. June is feast month in Portugal. St. Antonio in Lisbon and John Baptist in OPorto. So you will have a great time going to places, seeing parades, drinking and eating stuff. What you want to do is buy 1 KG of Cherries and keep them in your Airbnb to snack on every day. They aren't like the ones I grew up with. They are not bitter but juicy. Also like a red wine that is meaty. Go for the darker fat ones (they will cost more). As for the sardines they have to be nicely prepared by a local, with olive oil and a tad bit of salt. They should be about 6 inchs long and be fresh. Never frozen. Wash it down with a nice Sagres or Super Bock. Enjoy Portugal!
