Hi Blanca,

Great Blog! I have learned so much reading it.

My husband and I are US citizens currently living in India where we've been for 5 years with my husband's work. We have decided to retire to Portugal and we have to use the Portuguese embassy here as our country of residence is India. Since we are US, living in India and wanting a D7 visa to retire to Portugal it has perplexed everyone at the embassy. After submitting our paperwork and waiting 60 days we finally hear back that we are "unfavorable" and our application has been denied. Our finances are more than enough to satisfy the monthly and yearly amounts. I was wondering if anyone else has had to apply for a visa while living in another country.

Thanks, June

Hi June,

I have a feeling the location was the issue. As far as I know, you must apply in your country of citizenship (are you Indian citizens or fully US citizens)? I know that I had to apply at the Newark location since I was from NJ and that I needed to go there in person to do some of the paperwork.

Is there someone at the Portuguese Consulate in India that can maybe give the SEF a ring to find out?

Wishing you tons of luck,

Blanca
