How will BREXIT affect my Portuguese Residency?

I just moved from a village just outside of Stafford to Porto.  I have put together the residency paperwork and since I am from currently from an EU nation I do not need a D7.   My concern is that when BREXIT hits this year will I be forced to apply for a D7 or have to move completely back to the UK. Currently I have an online job translating and teaching English and French so I do not need the Portuguese Medical Insurance or other benefits.   I really am concerned.  Any advice?

As of Jan 2019 Portugal is making efforts in negotiation with the UK to allow the 45,000 British Retiree's (probably you included) to stay in Portugal to retire, invest and even work. Portugal currently has over 300,000 Portuguese citizens who reside in the UK and the goverment is hoping reciprocity by the UK government.

Will this happen? I don't know but historically the UK and Portugal have been allies for centuries and the British Expats make up much of the Algarve so no Brits no Algarve development.

Even with a hard Brexit I believe the UK Embassy and the Portugese government will come to an agreement that will be benefitical to both parties.

One suggestion though is to begin the process of getting your Portugese NHR and quickly establishing yourself as part of the Portuguese community.

Good luck!
