We will be returning to the US from Rome in June, and have an overnight layover in Lisbon. We arrive at 4pm, and depart just after noon the next day. I have booked a room at the Avenida Palace. We are a family of five, two adults and three children, ages 11, 13 and 16. We have never been to Lisbon before, and I am looking for ideas as to the best way to spend our very limited time (essentially just one evening/ night) to get a feel for the city and its culture. I would like to plan another trip and spend several days in Lisbon and the surrounding area, but that is likely a couple of years at this point. We like wandering around historic neighborhoods, authentic local restaurants and shopping, and that sort of thing. While we also like to see historic monuments and museums, it seems like we may need to skip that given our limited time. Would love any suggestions.
