Dear Blanca,
As I sit here eating an empanada and sipping a sherry in Tucson, AZ, it’s got me wondering if it’s more difficult to find a flat in Lisbon than I’m letting on. Is it difficult to find an apartment in Lisbon?
Yours Truly,
Hungry Hugh and Thirsty T. Arizona.
Dear Hungry Hugh and Thirsty T. Arizona,
I’m here to tell you that the rumors about Lisbon being difficult to find a flat are both true and false. Having spent many years in Lisbon, I am familiar with both the challenges and rewards of apartment hunting in the capital.
First, let’s focus on the challenges. Rental prices in Portugal are renowned for being quite high, with competition often being fierce. One has to be willing to search relentlessly – and quickly – in order to secure a residence. Additionally, the usual process of signing a rental contract can be daunting, with opening hours often being less than forgiving.
Challenges of Finding a Flat:
-High Rental Prices
-Competition is Fierce
-Need to Search Quickly & Relentlessly
-Signing Rental Contract is Daunting
-Opening Hours Unforgiving
However, there is an upside. For starters, Lisbon is a city that is alive with culture, offering a multitude of activities regardless of one’s interests. Indeed, there are a variety of apartments available that can be quite reasonable, depending on their type, location, and other factors. Moreover, the cityscape of Lisbon is quite accommodating, with homes often being within walking-distance of the capital’s attractive historic sites.
Rewards of Living in Lisbon:
-Alive with Culture & Activities
-Variety of Affordable Apartments
-Close Proximity to Attractive Sites
Ultimately, I am glad that I made the decision to move (and stay) in Lisbon. With smart searching, persistence, and above all, a sense of adventure – one can live out a great lifestyle in the charming capital.
All the best of luck on your stay in Portugal. And make sure to grab a few more empanadas and sherry while you’re at it ; )
Sincerely,
Blanca Valbuena
