How Many Bank Holidays Does Portugal Have?

Thank you so much for your question – I’m so pleased that you are planning move to Lisbon.

According to the Portuguese government, Portugal has ten official national holidays each year: Much of the year is based around two core religious holidays – Easter and Christmas- with the other eight designed to commemorate important moments in the nation’s history.

the second of the religious holidays is Good Friday which marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ followed by Easter Sunday. Portugal Day is commemorated on 10 June, marking the death of poet Luísa de Camões in 1580 and the restoration of consciousness of Portuguese nationality as well as celebrating the Portuguese communities abroad. The other six holidays consist of:

•Corpus Christi
•Assumption
•Freedom Day (25 April)
•Labor Day (1 May)
•Saints Peter and Paul (29 June)

I hope this is helpful for your travels and that you have a wonderful trip!

Warm wishes,
Blanca
