Lisbon Art Classes

I’ve made art my entire life. As I got older, life (work) got in the way. That’s why I began taking art courses, it made it so I had to create. In NYC I took classes at the Art Students League, those were some of the best courses I took and I am so lucky for it. I have just recently made Lisbon my home base, and I am starting to do my research to find art classes that fit me and my personality. Right now, this list of Lisbon Art Classes is just research, but as I test some out, I’ll add some insights. If you have suggestions on Lisbon Art Classes for me, please leave them in the comments and let me know what you think!

Lisbon Art Classes

Clube de Desenho Lisboa $

This is a fantastic spot if you’re on a budget. This is more of a club than a class and payment is beyond fair. You can pay in cash, goods, or services. For example:

Payments in Cash

3€ each workshop // 10€ a month 1-off workshops: 6€

Payments in Goods

– give or lend for a month or 2 – New/old / 2nd hand – if it still works it’s still good 🙂 eg: Guitar / ukulele / computer / food mixer / camera / art equipment ( brushes / pencils etc etc )

Payments in Services

– Admin help // Guitar lessons // be a model for drawing

  1. Thank you so much for this! I, similarly to you, have loved art and been involved in it in various ways, all my life, in NY as well. And now that I’ve moved to Portugal, I’m looking for a community and an opportunity to continue learning technique and create. Do you by any chance know of any welding or metal working courses in Portugal?

    Best of luck!
    Kate

  2. Hi Kate, So nice to meet you. There is a nice (small group) on Facebook for artists in Lisbon. Not sure where you are located, but it is a very nice group.

I’m not aware of welding courses, but I’ll ask around and update here via reply. That should notify you 🙂

  4. Hello I love doing paintings sketches I am just a beginner and I have done courses for drawings in Nepal can you tell me where I can learn to draw or are there any drawing clases on Portugal I am staying in cascais.

  5. Thanks for asking about art classes in Cascais. I haven’t taken any there, but there are a few:

Look for Francisco Capelo and Paint in Portugal. They were both recommended.

  6. I am thinking of of opening an Art School for adults in central Lisboa.
Where do you suggest I advertise?
And is anyone you know still interested?

    best,
    Liz

  7. There is a vibrant art community here in Lisbon and there are some nice classes out there. I’m sure someone would be interested. This Facebook group may give you more of an idea as to whether your business idea would fly. I would advertise on Facebook, Instagram, and the Facebook groups for expats that are out there (you can also advertise here…dm me if you want me to send you a rate sheet ;).

    Hi Lulu,

Do you want her to take classes with a teacher or in a group of other kids?

  10. ‪carmel harel‬‏

    hi

im interested on having graffiti one time class for my 11 years old as birthday present next week.

  11. Blanca Valbuena

    Hi Carmel,

I don’t know of a teacher that specializes in graffiti classes in Lisbon…but give one of the schools listed a call to see if they do or know someone who does.

When you find one, make sure to let me know here – so that others looking for this have a way to find them too.

  12. Hi Blanca,
I’m looking for open studios in Lisbon and Porto for portraiture. I’ll be there this Nov/Dec for @1 month. I didn’t see this as an option at Facultade de Belas Artes. Is there an atelier that offers this? Also I’m not on Facebook but if any artists in Lisbon have a room they can rent….

  13. Hi Laura,

You may want to reach out to Mito. They have spaces for studio rentals for artists…not sure what their policy currently is, but they are a wonderful bunch. https://www.facebook.com/mitocreativesite/

Have a wonderful time here, the light is wonderful, so make sure to get some portrait painting on the water done.

    🙂
    Blanca

  14. My pleasure. I’m going to ask a few more places to see if I find another space that you can use.

  15. To clarify, in the US, ‘open studio’ means drop in, pay a nominal model fee, and paint without instruction but amongst other artists. Ateliers and art schools often have open studios once/week for the public. I did not mean that I wanted to rent a studio that is vacant. It’s just a different meaning here….:)

  16. Thanks for this! I’ve also attended the Art Students League growing up – wonderful opportunity. Have been wanted to get back into art again after all these years so this is really helpful.

  17. Wasn’t the ASL just wonderful! Let me know what you think of the classes, or if you find some new ones. I’d be thrilled to test them out.
