What's the Average Temperature in Lisbon, Portugal

One of the biggest reasons we moved to Lisbon is its incredible weather. The seasons here are:

  • Winter. Winter feels more like a rainy spring in the US. You must have good waterproof/non-slip shoes. The city can be grey and rainy for days, but it sure beats the sub zero temperatures we used to get in NYC. Nights get cold, and since most homes are not properly insulated, you’ll want to layer up or turn on your fireplace. If you’re living here and not just visiting, you may want to invest in a good way to heat your Portuguese home.
  • Spring:  In the Spring, you will need a sweater for your morning or evening walks, towards midday the city warms up so you can enjoy an imperial and tremocos at a kiosk while absorbing some vitamin D.
  • Summer: During the Summer, Lisbon usually gets only 1 week of unbearable heat. Hopefully this doesn’t change with Climate Change. But just to give you an idea, we’ve only turned on our AC unit once in the five years we have been in our apartment.
  • Autumn: to give you an idea, I was able to go to the beach in October. The water was ice cold, but the beach was comfy. Just like Spring, make sure you have sweaters or light coats to wear during the morning or at night.
