Katie L asked 6 years ago Hello there! I am planning on traveling to Medellin Columbia in January for my brother's wedding. I am 12 weeks pregnant and will be around 7 months in January. My doctor gave me the ok to fly to Columbia in January as long as I do not have any complications, however she was concerned about Zkia. After doing some research online- I am only really finding articles about Columbia in general and not just the Medellin area. I know this may be more of a concern for costal cities, but I was wondering if while traveling to Medellin if you came across any information first hand about the Zika virus and if it is a real concern for this particular area? I am struggling to make a decision to go or not due to my family being very concerned for my health and the health of our baby, but I dont feel like I have gotten really good supporting information on this subject to make an informed decision. Antonio Evans Staff answered 5 years ago Zika and Chikungunya both are prevailant in more of the rainforest areas. The countries (Brazil & Colombia) are both erradicating them and have almost destroyed the threat. Lead in most US waters are more of a threat.
Wear anti-bug sprays and wristbands. You should be fine. The statistics are more likely you will win the lotto. It's almost a non-thing. Heck this year it's almost on par with Florida.

Americans are very afraid of the world because of the poor news outlets in the world. Grab some time watching colombian news or even European. Way more fair and balanced.
