Nicholas Spahle asked 4 years ago Good morning, I have a question about time spent in portugal or shengen region during the temporary residency. I have read conflicting reports on different websites and I know things change all the time, but in your experience what is the the amount of time required to be in portugal to renew your next couple temorary residency permits? On a side note I really appreciate your blog it is very informative, we plan on moving to the Lisbon area in about 4 years and are trying to get ahead of all the planning.Thank YouNicholas [email protected]

I got backed up, so I apologize for the late response.
When you arrive, you need to stay until you have your first renewal appointment (4 months after you arrive - book this immediately).
Once you get your first official D7 visa at that appointment, you are expected to be in Portugal 6 consecutive months or 8 non-consecutive months each year.
