Hi there Blanca ,

I came across your blog doing some research about the required paperwork to obtain D7 Visa.

We went to the Portugal Embassy here in Panama and we’ve collected a lot of information about the process , however we are stuck with NIF requirement for the opening of the bank account since we don't know anybody yet who can help us signing as fiador .

I will really appreciate if you can recommend us a small affordable local firm that provides this type of service .

Thanks a lot for your help .

Hi Marco,

Not sure how it is in Panama, but when I applied for the D7 via the USA, I didn't need a NIF to get it. I got the NIF once I came to Portugal and went to my first Visa renewal appointment. Then after that I got a bank account.

My mom applied from Colombia and it was the same for her.

This outlines my process for getting the first Portuguese d7 visa in the states and this is the post for the first appointment for the renewal of your D7 Visa (your first visa will only be valid for 4 months). Let me know if those help.

You are able to get a NIF without your residence here, but you have to do that in person at the AT (financas). A Portuguese lawyer may be able to do this for you as your tax representative. I've got a nice list of English speaking lawyers in Lisbon. I think one of them should be able to properly help you :)
