A list of stores where you can buy cheap furniture in Portugal

Where to Buy Affordable Furniture in Portugal

If you’re making the move to become an expat in Portugal, you may think of shipping your furniture over. Our advice, don’t. It’s a wasteful stress of time that I have not yet written about because I still get angry about the whole process. Our relocation company when moving to Lisbon sucked, big time. Anyway…if you follow our advice and you get to Portugal sans furniture, you’ll need to buy affordable furniture in Portugal. I’ve put together a list of places where you can do that! I also included the prices for the cheapest bed frame available at these stores so you can get an idea of what they will cost. The prices are for 2022.

Where to Buy Affordable Furniture in Portugal

Price of the Cheapest Ikea Bed in Portugal
How much will I pay for a cheap bed frame in Portugal? If you shop at Ikea, it will cost you as low as €39

Ikea (online & retail)

Yup. Ikea is wonderful and you can find almost anything you need there. Ikea is cheap and easy to assemble. If you combine their stuff with local decor, you can make yourself a nice home in no time.

Ikea Locations in Portugal: There are two locations in Lisbon (Alfragide & Loures), one in Braga, one in Porto (in Matoshinos), and one in the Algarve (in Loulé).

PRO TIP: Go to the Oportunidades area. This is the equivalent of the As-Is in the USA. Tons of great deals to be had.

JOM is a store in Portugal where you can get affordable furniture
The cheapest bed frame at JOM will cost you about €200

Jom (online & retail)

The selection is not huge, but you can get some great deals here. We discovered this after purchasing many things and found they were cheaper here than at other stores like Leroy Merlin (specifically speaking about lighting).

Jom Locations in Portugal: There are 19 locations: Viseu, Viana do Castelo, Sintra, Santarem, Ovar, Montijo, Mealhada, Maia, Guimarães, Guarda, Évora, Covilhã,  Corroios, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Braga, Batalha, Barcelos, and Aveiro.

Moviflor is a Portuguese furniture store where the prices are cheap
The cheapest bed frame at Moviflor will cost you around €139

Moviflor (online & retail)

Here, you can purchase furniture and some household electronics. Stuff is fairly priced as well.

Moviflor Locations in Portugal: Sadly, only two in Coimbra & Aveiro.

Where to Purchase Appliances in Lisbon

You can buy affordable furniture at La Redoute in Portugal
The cheapest bed frame on La Redoute will cost you around €80

La Redoute (online only)

I quickly fell in love with La Redoute. It doesn’t sell everything when it comes to furniture, but they sell some really beautiful things. Stuff here is not “cheap”, but it is beautiful. They also offer free shipping quite often AND free returns.

Conforama is a store in Portugal where you can buy affordable furniture
A cheap bed frame from Conforama will cost you around €140

Conforama (online  & retail)

Not the cheapest, but you can get everything there from beds to washing machines, couches, and mattresses. It’s a good place to go if you want to get it all in one place.

Conforama Locations in Portugal: There are locations in Setubal, Lisbon, Madeira, Porto, and Faro.

Where to find beautiful but inexpensive furniture in Portugal
Area’s bed frames cost usually around €350, but their styles are very nice. A basic frame costs under €100

Area (retail only)

Included them even though they are on the higher end of the price spectrum (and even though their website is awful) because they carry some gorgeous items. Go here for that one special piece or for accessories.

Area Locations in Portugal: There are four locations: Amoreiras, Colombo, Cascais,  Senhora da Hora.

Buy affordable furniture in Portugal at Hiper Centro de Movel
The cheapest bed frames at Hiper Centro De Movel costs around €98

Hiper Centro do Movel

Stuff here ranges from ridiculously tacky to a pleasant surprise, so you’ll have to really shop.

Hiper Centro do Movel Locations: There are 10 locations in Portugal including: Palmela, Pinhal Novo, Aboboda, Odivelas, Evora, Quarteira, Santiago do Cacem, Lagoa, and Setubal.

Remar

Remar is a store where people donate furniture and it is sold at very low prices. Money earned is used towards social programs in Portugal. You can find some cute stuff there, but you will have to look.

There is only one Remar Location in Lisbon City and it is located at nº 104 A e B, R. Possidónio da Silva near the Tapada was Necesidades. There are other locations in Lisbon state and throughout Portugal.

Paços de Ferreira

So…this is not a store, but a city…and it is known as Portugal’s furniture capital. If you want to add a Portuguese touch to your home, this is the place to stock up (and the furniture here is affordable). There is one shopping center with over 115 furniture stores too.

  1. Literally stumbled across your site a day after I bought all my furniture. Grrrr. However this is very useful still for future projects so thanks a ton! I noticed you’ve got Colombian roots, I moved here after 6 months in Medellin. Everyone needs Colombians in their lives : ) !

Darn. Hope you picked up some nice things. Happy to hear you like Colombian people…I think we’re nice…but I am biased 😀

  3. Thank you for this breakdown. Our moving consultants were also terrible…I feel your anger!
Looking forward to shopping at these stores.

I’m glad you liked it. There are more shops that I have discovered so I have to make sure to add them here. I’m still angry at my moving consultants…and it’s been three years 😉

  5. Thank you for the advice! Would love to see your list of additional stores to furnish an apartment in Portugal. I love the vibe of Area but agree that the website doesn’t give much detail of each product. Is La Redoute better quality than Ikea? Also, what are your thoughts on delivery times etc.

  6. Hi Stef,

There is currently a La Redoute pop up store in Avenidas Novas. Their stuff is definitely better quality than Ikea. It is on Avenida Duque De Avila near The Auchan. If you go there, there is another awesome home decor store with great pieces around the corner from it. I’m not sure of the name, but definitely worth checking out.

Loja de Gato Negro has some nice pieces too.

  7. Excellent article, I am about to exchange contracts on my house in Cheltenham and I will then be heading over to Portugal on a house hunting trip. Your articulate has been very helpful to me.
    Thank you
