Is this a good location for an apartment?

I found an apartment to rent - it is on the border of Chiado/Barrio Alto I think. It is located at the southwest corner of Praça Camões, where Rua Horta Seca turns into Praça Luis de Camões, at the heart of Chiado. Does this sound like a good location for safety to walk in the evening with our nine month old and close to restaurants, sights, etc. Does anyone know if it is a hilly area? Thank you
